 Научная дисциплина, разрабатывающая и систематизирующая понятия, приемы, математические методы и модели, предназначенные для организации сбора, стандартной записи, систематизации и обработки (в том числе с помощью ЭВМ) статистических данных с целью их удобного представления, интерпретации и получения научных и практических выводов[1]. Если рассматривать математическую статистику как науку, изучающую лишь данные вероятностной природы (таково распространенное толкование), то П.с. надо считать дисциплиной, использующей ее методы и приемы в качестве рабочего инструментария по отношению к данным не обязательно вероятностной природы. При более широком понимании предмета математической статистики — одним из разделов последней (См. Многомерный статистический анализ). Термин «прикладная» здесь не вполне точен: прикладными являются, безусловно, и такие дисциплины, как экономическая статистика, сельскохозяйственная статистика и другие специальные статистические дисциплины. Вместо термина «П.с.» некоторые специалисты употребляют другой: «анализ данных». [1] См.: Айвазян С.А. и др. Прикладная статистика.
